Men of Troy

USC rules the college football world. At least that's the general consensus by 99% of the national media and coaches. Pete Carroll took over the reins of a program that didn't have a top 10 finish in over a decade and has turned them into a powerhouse.

Carroll has basically locked down the borders when recruiting in the talent rich state of California. He also has done quite well recruiting on a national level, picking up selected 5 & 4 star recruits at will. All-Americans and NFL 1st rounders are flying out of there by the dozens. Pre-season #1 rankings are a given. USC has it all. 6 straight national championships.........wait a second, according to this, they have ONE? How could that happen. They certainly have more talent than anyone on their schedule. The coaching staff is solid. The schedule itself isn't brutal.

Of course if you ask any USC fan, they'll tell you that they have 2 MNC's in that span. I've done the research.....USC is a member of the BCS. The BCS members have agreed to recognize the winner of the BCS Championship game as the MNC. USC has 1. I'm certainly not going to belittle the significance of winning one, just pointing out that the facts often are overshadowed by the general impression presented by the media.

The moral of the story.

UGA may enter the 2008 season as #1. They certainly have as much or more talent than anyone. The coaching staff is solid. The schedule IS brutal. Along with the usual SEC suspects, we pick up a pretty good ASU team at their house. I see comments all too often stating "UGA always seems to lose a game that they shouldn't". Fact is, you could insert any elite team into that statement. I like our chances this season, but finishing #1 is much more difficult than starting there. Just ask the Men of Troy.

I like your URL Link there. http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/alltime It does point out just how dominating The SEC has been in BCS National Championship Games, having never lost one. LSU is 2-0, Florida and Tennessee both are 1-0, and in the 10 years now of the BCS Mythical National Championship Game, The SEC is the only Undefeated Conference in the BCS MNC Game. Southern California is only 1-1, whereas LSU has won 2 and lost none, and Florida, Tennessee, and Texas have won 1 too – like Southern California - and lost none.

The Conferences in the BCS National Championship Game :

4-0. The SEC.

2-3. The Big XII.

1-1. The Big East (Miami).

1-1. The PAC-10.

1-2. The Big Ten (11).

1-3. The ACC.

The ACC clearly has been the Worst in the BCS NC Games at 1-3.

In addition, in all BCS Bowl Games, the ACC has been the dead last worst as well at 1-9, besides the media overrated Notre Dame Independent at 0-3. The Big XII is only 6-8. The Big Ten (11) is only 8-9. The WAC is 1-1. The Mountain West is only 1-0. The Big East is 6-4, mostly teams no longer in that Conference. And, in all these BCS Bowl Games, the Pac-10 is only 8-4 to The SEC at 11-4.

6 programs, Half of The SEC has been in a BCS Bowl Game. Notably, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama.

As for the Schedule Strength, clearly UGA has played far better competition than has Southern California and will again, as you say, this up-coming season as well.

The Big 10 has just dropped off, and the Rose Bowl has not been good for many many many years in a row now, pitting the PAC-10 with the Big 10 with neither having a Conference Championship, unlike every other real BCS Conference all of which do have a Conference Championship Game. They want to play soft schedules, both the Big 10 and the PAC-10 and then face off against a weak, played no one opponent and say they are then the greatest.

Who did Ohio State beat last year ? No one. Ohio State Official NCAA Strength of Schedule, including afforded the opportunity to be blown out by The SEC yet again (0-9 All-Time in Bowl Games against The SEC), Ohio State’s SOS is Number 38.

Who did Southern California beat last year ? No one either. Southern California Official NCAA SOS Number 73.

http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/toughest%20schedule/ia_9games_cumm.pdf

UGA had the Number 7 SOS last season and this up-coming season plays the Number Toughest SOS.

Pete Carroll and Coach Richt have both been coaching at their respective schools, exactly the same number of seasons. 7 Seasons.

Coach Richt is 7th in the nation in Wins with 72 Wins since 2001, when both started, and Pete Carroll, who is about to go on NCAA Probation for Reggie Bush, is just ahead of LSU (who has 74 wins with 2 coaches) as Southern California has 77 wins. LSU is No. 5 in the nation starting 2001.

http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=2001&end=2007&rpct=1&min=1&ss=on&se=on&c1a=on&pt=on&by=Wins

In fact, Southern California does not have more wins since 2001 than Oklahoma, Boise State, nor Texas – yet, as you can clearly see, as you say, the competition has been significantly easier for Southern California than it has been for The Georgia Bulldogs.

Georgia is expected to lose a game, we should not ?

Excuse me on that one too, as you say. When you play such a sorry lousy schedule of games as Southern California in fact – at the Number 73 SOS compared to UGA at Number 7 SOS, and all you have to show for it is that you did not Win more games than UGA did in fact, maybe that explains why the AP Poll ranks UGA for 2007-2008 higher than Southern California.

One would think that is the reason why UGA is Number 2 in the Country, behind only LSU, whom we were not afforded The SEC Championship Game because The SEC disregards the fact that Tennessee is Number 12 and UGA Number 2 when the whole purpose of The SEC Championship Game is not to disregard the loss to lousy California who did not even have a winning record, but to pit the 2 highest BCS Ranked Teams so that they can get a bump in the BCS Rankings to gain the Berth in the BCS NC Game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

As a matter of fact, if you look at the Rankings of Pete Carroll compared to Coach Richt in their 7 seasons at the helm of these 2 programs being compared :

http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/past_AP_Polls.htm

Final AP Polls :

2 UGA 2007-2008.
3 Southern California 2007-2008.

23 UGA 2006-2007.
4 Southern California 2006-2007.

10 UGA 2005-2006.
2 Southern California 2005-2006.

7 UGA 2004-2005.
1 Southern California 2004-2005 beat Oklahoma 2 rank wins, not Auburn 7 rank wins.

7 UGA 2003-2004.
1 Southern California, I thought to be 3-peat had to have won more than 1 NC game.

2 UGA 2002-2003.
3 Southern California 2002-2003.

22 UGA 2001-2002.
UNRANKED Southern California who Lost 6 games, not winning record.

So, what do we have ? The Georgia Bulldogs have been ranked ahead of Southern California, their Poll they only want to talk about 3 of the 7 years both have coached their teams. If we are again this up-coming season, as we were last season; that will be 4 of the 8 years, Southern California has not been ranked ahead of UGA in the Final AP Poll.

In fact, Coach Richt has a FAR BETTER average finish in the Final AP Poll than Pete Carroll has because UGA plays a better Strength of Schedule, and is more respected than Southern California for it, who plays no one.

As you say.

Southern California’s ONLY win all season long was against ARIZONA STATE Number 17 in the Final AP Poll. (We play Arizona State this year.)

Georgia beat Florida Number 12 in the Final AP Poll, Auburn Number 15, and Hawaii Number 19; and, we play Arizona State this season.

Yes, the head-to-head is quite measurable of Coach Richt to Pete Carroll.

How do you average the Final AP Poll Rankings of Pete Carroll when he did not even have a Winning Record in 2001-2002 ?

As a matter of fact, only 1 football Program has been Ranked in the Final AP Polls every single year for now 11 Consecutive Seasons and Counting.

These are The UGA Bulldogs, 11 seasons Final AP Poll teams in a row and destined to be a Dozen Years.

If you look at the last 11 years, only Ohio State and Texas have 1 more Win than UGA Bulldogs have, 108 to 107.

Southern California is Number 11 in Wins during this consecutive streak of being Ranked in the Final AP Poll currently for UGA Bulldogs.

All-Time UGA is Number 11, and Southern California is Number 10 in All-Time Football Wins.

Duh. They play an easier schedule.

As you say.

As for the conversation that Southern California has MORE in the NFL than anyone : BS.

http://www.secsports.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=2&url_article_id=9669&change_well_id=2

46 Miami.

44 Ohio State.

41 Florida State.

37 UGA.

36 Tennessee vols.

Southern California does not have more players in the NFL than does UGA.

In fact, UGA plays against far more NFL football players than Southern California does as well. There are 264 NFL football players from The SEC to only 183 from the PAC-10 on Opening Day Rosters 2007-2008 NFL Season.

In fact, only the Big XII and Big East have fewer NFL players than the stinking Pac-10.

U.S. News and World Report 2008 reports that of the Top Colleges for Academics :

27 Southern California.
59 UGA.

Southern California is NOT ranked in the Top 25 Best Colleges in America according to U.S. News and World Report. UGA is Number 59 to Southern California Number 27.

http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/directory/brief/drglance_1569_brief.php

But, don’t get the impression from this that Southern California’s Football Players study harder than UGA’s.

Nothing is FARTHER from the truth.

963 Football NCAA APR UGA.

http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2006/257_2006_apr.pdf

947 Football NCAA APR Southern California.

http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2006/657_2006_apr.pdf

This despite the obvious distraction of playing better football teams as Opponents every week, that UGA Football Players are significantly better at Academics than Southern California’s football players.

5 UGA is ranked Number 5 as the Top Party Schools September 2007 by The Princeton Review, while Southern California is not ranked in the list of the Top 20 Party Schools. So, Southern California football players don’t have that as an excuse for having worse academics than UGA football players.

http://cocktales.wordpress.com/2007/09/17/princeton-review-top-party-schools-2008/

And, we put more in the NFL as a result as well.

And, are ranked ahead of Southern California 3 of the 7 years so far of both Pete Carroll and Coach Richt, and it will be 4 of 8 this up-coming year in the Final AP Polls as well.

And, no one is saying UGA is going on NCAA Probation in Football, while everyone says Southern California is.

And, in attendance :

6 UGA.
8 Southern California.

Number 6 in attendance at football games, UGA while Southern California is Number 8. So, while California is 5 times the population of Georgia, UGA actually has better attendance than Southern California does in the Land of Fruit and Nuts.

I would stack up UGA Men’s Baseball, Men’s Tennis and Football to Southern California this season.

Southern California has not had any advantage over UGA in Recruiting with Pete Carroll compared to Coach Richt either.

8 Southern California Rivals Rank 2008.
7 UGA.

http://uga.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?SID=878&Sport=1

The past 7 years has been no different either.

2 Southern California Rivals 2007.
9 UGA.

1 Southern California Rivals 2006.
4 UGA.

1 Southern California Rivals 2005.
10 UGA.

1 Southern California Rivals 2004.
4 UGA.

3 Southern California Rivals 2003.
6 UGA.

13 Southern California Rivals Rank 2002.
3 UGA Rivals Rank Recruiting 2002.

Southern California has averaged a Number 4 Rivals Ranked Recruiting Class while UGA has averaged Number 6.

There are always football players who take money to play football in college and prefer not to play tough opponents, to show off against nobody opponents, who do not study, who have no one there who want to then watch them at their games, who are overrated therefore but not when they get into the NFL, who want to say they go to a great college who really isn’t that great and certainly the football players are far worse at academics, who have no life therefore and do not rank as a Party School who compete in a conference of but 1 team compared to Real UGA Bulldogs’ Football –a far cry from this witnessed at Southern California.
